La Cooperativa “EDNE” Ltda. fue fundada el 04 de agosto de 1965 por un grupo de 98 empleados de la Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE) obteniendo su personería jurídica, bajo acuerdo No.1148 por los despachos de la Secretaria de Economía y Hacienda, la cual lleva por nombre: Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito de Empleados de la División del Norte Eléctrica Limitada “EDNE”.

La “EDNE” es una Cooperativa organizada y constituida como una alternativa de solución a las necesidades de crédito de todos los afiliados. Como objetivos primarios se tenían los siguientes:
• Estimular el ahorro entre los afiliados.
• Hacer Prestamos a un interés razonable
• Capacitar económica y socialmente a todos sus miembros
• Fomentar la expansión e integración del movimiento cooperativo

En su fundación, la Asamblea General nombró por común acuerdo a las siguientes personas para dirigir la Cooperativa:
